Belgian chocolatier Godiva has created a limited edition Gold Anniversary Collection in honour of its 90th anniversary. As reported, The Moodie Report was in Brussels earlier this week to join the brand in celebrating its landmark anniversary.
Described as “a delicious meeting of the past and present”, the Gold Anniversary Collection features eight of Godiva’s most iconic chocolates and a brand new Egérie Noir piece.

According to Godiva, every chocolate tells its own unique story. Lady Noir recreates one of Pierre Draps’, Godiva’s original Maître Chocolatier, earliest recipes, while the Signature Lait is a velvety coffee ganache, decorated with a feather and created for the movie “˜Gone With The Wind’ in 1939. The milk chocolate encased liquid caramel Ecusson features a lion rampant to mark Godiva’s appointment to the Royal Court of Belgium in 1968. Other historical pieces include the Coeur Blanc (1945), Noblesse (1959), Nippon (1972), Azteque (1992) and Mousse Meringue (2015).
Egérie Noir, the ninth and final piece of the collection, combines smooth raspberry ganache balanced with essence of rose petals and is encased in dark Belgian chocolate. Created by Godiva Chef Chocolatier Jean Apostolou, both the filling and the shape of the shell are completely new.
Godiva Chef Chocolatier Jean Apostolou said: “The Gold Collection contains eight of our most precious and iconic chocolates alongside a brand new fresh and fragrant rose and raspberry-flavoured piece. This collection is where tradition and imagination artfully come together.”

Celebrating 90 years with a bang: inspiration for the colourful box, designed by Oli-B, came from fireworks |
For the Gold Anniversary Collection’s packaging Godiva collaborated with Belgian artist Oli-B to create a colourful design which aims to evoke the drama of fireworks. “I wanted to make the box colourful and joyful – 90 years in business is a cause for great celebration, so my main inspiration was fireworks and all the energy, colour and happiness that they bring,” commented Oli-B.
Godiva Global PR Director Laurence Koutny said: “We preserve a proud heritage of craftsmanship, passion and innovation, at Godiva. For our 90th anniversary, we chose Oli-B because we felt a strong synergy with him. He is a proud Belgian with a unique and imaginative aesthetic whose work requires great skill and precision.”
Priced at US$35.50, the limited edition Gold Anniversary Collection 18 piece box will pre-launch in March with Dubai Duty Free before rolling out to global travel retail in April 2016.
