Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Duty Free Global from Ireland, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

PORTUGAL. Today’s selection of images comes from Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon where Brands Director Hannah Tan got to experience ARI’s ‘Joy Awaits’ campaign firsthand.
As reported, ARI is marking the launch of the campaign with a The Moodie Davitt Report homepage makeover and an elegant treatment of our mobile website. The activation promises “a vibrant, joyful and memorable retail experience for passengers” and combines the joy of giving with the joy of airport shopping.
With strong passenger traffic forecast across the network during the holiday period, ARI says the campaign is positioned to help teams maximise the key retail moment.
The company said in a statement: “Joy Awaits brings luxury, warmth and joy to life, inviting passengers to discover the magic of the season through gifting, festive experiences and seamless shopping.
“The campaign aims to transform every touchpoint into a moment of delight, with vintage-inspired holiday props, rich foliage and luxurious finishing touches, from oversized bows to lighting features.”

The seasonal campaign is brought to life through a broad omnichannel approach at Lisbon Duty Free (Portugal Duty Free).
Travellers are welcomed by a dedicated photo area at the Terminal 1 store entrance. Inside, dynamic digital signage cycles through seasonal messages and campaign visuals that draw attention to special offers across key categories.
In addition, ARI is offering other “joy-inducing”, sense of place elements that complement the campaign. A dedicated area spotlights sustainable brands, while playful cultural motifs add local character to the store.
Highlights include a colourful display of the Galo de Barcelos (Rooster of Barcelos), a traditional symbol of Portugal; and a bright yellow tram car installation in a nod to Lisbon’s well-known transport system.
These elements all come together to portray Portugalidade, retail design that reflects the country’s landscape, artistry and heritage – or the essence of being Portuguese.

A lively schedule of retailtainment continues throughout December, with tastings and other seasonal activities planned.
In 2022, ARI was named joint-venture partner for ANA’s duty-free and duty-paid retail concessions across almost 10,000sq m of space at eight airports in Portugal – Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira Islands (Madeira and Porto Santo), and Azores Islands (Ponta Delgada, Santa Maria and Horta). The Moodie Davitt Report President & Editorial Director Dermot Davitt was on location in Lisbon earlier this year for the official unveiling of the new-look Portugal Duty Free stores.
The Joy Awaits campaign at Lisbon Duty Free delivers a stand-out holiday shopping experience that blends commercial ambition with local culture while fostering a shared sense of joy for travellers. ✈
