INTERNATIONAL. With immense sadness we report the passing of Tony Detter (58), a long-time, much-admired and deeply respected member of the travel retail community, writes Martin Moodie.
Tony enjoyed great success in the inflight retail world over a stellar, near two-decade career with Inflight Sales Group, for many years the world’s number one airline duty-free concessionaire.
His excellence in the role resulted in him becoming Group Managing Director in March 2006, based out of Hong Kong, a position he served with great distinction until his retirement in October 2017.
As I wrote at the time of his well-earned retirement, “Tony Detter has been a long-time servant of Inflight Sales Group and a tremendous contributor to the inflight retail sector. A man of great integrity, he is held in very high esteem by brands, airlines and rivals alike.”
A deep APTRA affection
Tony also served as Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) Treasurer for many years, a role he cherished. “APTRA has been one of the best parts of my work in the industry,” he told me back in 2017.
“We have had a committed group of leading executives working to promote our industry throughout the region, supporting members facing ever-changing regulations and potential threats, as well as providing members with consumer insights and responsible retail training.” ✈
