Jelly Belly Candy Company has appointed Ellen Welby as International Business Manager/Travel Retail to manage the global travel retail market in a move to position the company for growth in this channel.

Welby, an 11-year veteran of the company’s International Division, handles sales and market development for the travel retail category, in addition to regional business development in parts of Asia.

Based in the Fairfield, California headquarters and reporting to Vice President of International Business Sharon Duncan, Welby manages a network of travel retail distributors and brokers, serving travel retail customers in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Russia and the Caribbean.

“Travel retail’s premium environment and consumer profiles are an ideal match for Jelly Belly jelly beans and other fine confections,” Welby said. “We have been successful in major hub airports around the world, and now we’re expanding our presence with more merchandising, exclusive travel retail products and customised promotions.”

The flagship sugar confectionery brand Jelly Belly jelly beans has global recognition and is the top-selling gourmet jelly bean in the world, according to the company. The beans are available in more than 100 flavours.

The company is currently shipping its new, exclusive Jelly Belly Travel Retail line to stores worldwide. The line offers a variety of gifts designed to provide travellers with fun and flavour.

The Jelly Belly 400g Assorted Flavours Bag is a grab-and-go pouch that features individual bags of gourmet Jelly Belly jelly beans in 10 flavours. The colourful beans come in single-serving pyramid bags, an exclusive package designed for travel retail locations.

Custom promotional programmes

Jelly Belly Candy Company also provides retailers with custom promotional programmes to sample Jelly Belly beans on site.

“Sampling the shopper is a proven driver for producing robust sales,” said Welby. “We know when the consumer tastes the remarkable flavours of Jelly Belly beans, they are astonished by the authenticity of the flavours. A large percentage of shoppers who receive a sample also make a purchase. Our samples are easy to dispense and don’t require extra staff or point of sale materials.

“We will also work with retailers to develop custom merchandising programmes,” she added.

The company also offers display units to create a candy destination without the store.

Jelly Belly beans are gluten-free, dairy-free, gelatine-free, four calories a bean and certified OU Kosher.
