ROMANIA. Aeroporturi Bucuresti, the company operating Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport, will issue tenders this summer for the operation of retail, food & beverage and money exchange activities at the country’s main gateway.
The tenders will cover 21 retail and 25 F&B locations across 1,500sq m and 2,200sq m, respectively, throughout all terminal zones. They will be situated both landside and airside and in departures and arrivals.
The retail tender will comprise one package for all categories including convenience. Food & beverage will be split into two packages covering multiple locations.

The tenders will be launched at the end of July or beginning of August and bidders will have until mid-October to present their proposals. The airport company said it expects to appoint the winners by the end of November.
“Now is the time to go to the market to explore opportunities for the retail and food service business at Bucharest Airport,” said Bucharest Airport Director General Sorin Radu Paun, noting the airport is emerging strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added: “The 2023 commercial performance so far gives us confidence that soon we will again see air travel grow back to the pre-pandemic levels and beyond. But we have to be conscious that the pandemic may have changed certain passenger behaviours and we need to be well prepared to serve the post-pandemic traveller. To achieve this, we need the help of our retail partners.”
Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport is located in Otopeni, 16.5 kilometres from the city centre of Bucharest. It serves as the headquarters and hub for national airline Romania TAROM, and services 118 destinations in 34 countries.
