MCM’s Shanghai Collection poised for travel retail debut

Contemporary artist Craig Redman designed MCM’s Shanghai Collection which is set to make its travel retail debut

INTERNATIONAL. MCM’s new Shanghai Collection designed by contemporary artist Craig Redman is set to make its debut in travel retail from March, after an excellent response to the line in China, where sales have “more than reached our expectations”, according to Global Travel Retail Director Gerry Munday.

Airports and downtown stores taking the Shanghai Collection include: Bahrain, Bangkok, Beijing Terminal 3, Delhi T3, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Larnaca, Macau, Manila T1 and Shanghai T2.

Downtown shops include Chongqing Downtown Galleria, King Power Downtown Galleria and Fiesta Mall. In addition, Harding Brothers is taking the collection for the MS Serenity and MS Symphony cruise ships.

In the new Shanghai Collection, Craig Redman celebrates MCM’s entry into China and Shanghai – China’s Port City of the East – with a fresh and bold bag design. The intertwined ropes recall the port city of Shanghai and its ancient shipping tradition. The collection features three rope designs in which the distinctive MCM logo branding shows through the entwined rope pattern.

Women’s bags come in a multi-coloured rope pattern with pink lizard embossed leather trim and a red-and-white candy-inspired design trimmed in white lizard; Men’s bags feature navy lizard trim. Matching small leathergoods are available

The women’s bags come in two versions: a multi-coloured rope pattern with pink lizard embossed leather trim and a red-and-white candy-inspired design trimmed in white lizard embossed leather. The men’s rope pattern comes in shades of grey featuring navy lizard leather trim.

The collection has a total of 17 products: 14 items for women and three for men. There are four women’s handbag styles (Shopper, Boston, Tambourine and Drawstring) and two men’s bag styles (briefcase and weekender). Small leathergoods, available in matching patterns, consist of three wallet styles for women and one for men.

A special label inside each bag emphasises the exclusivity of this collection.
