Pentalpha builds on brands’ trade show visions

Hunting World’s stand at the 2009 TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes was executed by Pentalpha exhibition consultants

INTERNATIONAL. As the travel retail industry’s attention turns to the next trade fair in October, The Moodie Report talks to Ian Kirk, Managing Director of exhibition consultants Pentalpha, which transforms the brands’ visions for their stands into reality.

Pentalpha aims to offer a complete package for its clients, including design, manufacture, installation, graphics and transport – even looking after all the forms that have to be filled in and completed for each show, says Kirk.

In addition to trade fairs, the UK-based company offers an interiors package, ranging from shopfitting and reception areas to boardrooms.

“Pentalpha was first established in 1995 and, since then, we’ve been very busy at all the TFWA shows – a few years ago having as many as 22 clients in Cannes,” Kirk says. “Recently we have had between 12 and 15 clients, with their booths ranging from the very complex design to the simplest booth, all taking the same amount of care and eye for detail and all the clients being treated as the most important.”

Kirk continues: “Some clients have been working with us for many years, i.e. Brown-Forman since 1998, Storck Travel Retail since 1998, also working for Premier Portfolio since 2002, among others. In 2009 we saw new clients, such as Sekonda, Pandora, Travel Retail Experts and Sagatiba, to name just a few, not only working with them at trade fairs but together in airport shops and supplying point of sale units.”

Busy run-up to the TFWA World Exhibition

After a tough 2009, Pentalpha is now seeing business pick up. “Although 2009 was quite slow for us in between travel retail shows, 2010 has been very busy, as if someone turned the switch on again in the New Year,” he says.

While Pentalpha is well established, Kirk himself is a familiar figure to many in the travel retail trade. Although Pentalpha has been attending each trade fair from 1995, Kirk celebrated his 25th year in the industry in 2009. As a trained carpenter and joiner before 1995, he freelanced between companies before the birth of Pentalpha.

Kirk is now looking forward to the 2010 TFWA World Exhibition. “Having handled six clients this year in Singapore [TFWA Asia Pacific] and already having 12 confirmed for Cannes this year, with others still under discussion, I foresee a busy October.”
