UK. Retailers catering to British consumers should take note of new data which highlights their changing lifestyle, according to the latest edition of SnapShop produced by UK retail business consultant Fripp Sandeman and Partners.
The retail news service reports on Office for National Statistics data revealing that MP3 players and Champagne are among the new items being added to a ‘shopping basket’ which is used to calculate the UK’s retail and consumer prices index. Out go products including baseball caps and slippers.
In his March overview Fripp Sandeman and Partners Managing Director Geoff Nicholson urged retailers to meet changing shopper aspirations and noted the “choppy retail waters” in the UK, where footfall data shows big declines (source: SPSL) and consumer spending continues to be squeezed (source: British Retail Consortium).
As well as the latest retail data, SnapShop gives a comprehensive monthly round-up of retail deals, financial results, new shop openings and property developments.
The March update highlights the retail expansion in the UK market of companies including ipod store PopXpress, French fashion house Agnes B, German fashion brand Gerry Weber, British accessories specialist Radley Bags and Australian lingerie retailer Palmers, as well as F&B concepts Ma Potters and Natural.
