This latest Runway Duty Free store is located in a completely new region for Aer Rianta International |
BARBADOS. Caribbean ARI (Aer Rianta International) opened the first of its five stores at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados yesterday, in time to catch the busy period of international passengers departing for Europe.
The 1,739sq ft (162sq m) shop, a Runway Duty Free concept, combines the spaces that had originally been tendered by the airport authority as separate liquor/tobacco and confectionery stores.
ARI’s partner in Barbados is Caribbean Airways.
“We are delighted to have opened our first store in the Caribbean,” said Aer Rianta International Regional Manager – North America and Caribbean Philip Eckles. “Delivering this store in what is a completely new region for ARI has required a huge team effort, and credit must go to Linda Bruton, ARI’s Project Manager, for her perseverance over the past few months.”
He added: “Thomas McCrave from ARI’s Design Services Team has delivered what is undoubtedly a new standard for duty free retailing in the Caribbean and has done so with a commitment and passion for the Barbados project that has been exceptional.
“Donald Harlow-Powell, although relatively new to the Barbados team, has quickly established himself as the head of a dynamic and vibrant team, and is very optimistic and excited for the prospects for the business in the future. There has also been a huge team effort to deliver this store opening, including many unnamed stars from ARI’s parent office in Shannon, ARI’s Regional office in Montreal and of course ARI’s partner in Barbados, Caribbean Airways.”
The remaining stores – Runway Beauty, Runway Voyager, Runway Fashion and the arrivals store Runway Beach Hut – are all due to open within the next two weeks.
