Sephora to enter Canadian market – 18/08/04

CANADA. Leading LVMH-owned beauty retailer Sephora is set to open its first retail store in Canada.

The company has signed a lease for retail space in Toronto’s Eaton shopping centre. Its first “brick-and-mortar” entry into the country is scheduled for this November.

The new store will cover about 5,100sq ft and will feature Sephora’s latest merchandising, marketing and store design.

“The positive feedback from our on-line Canadian clients over the past ten months exceeded our expectations, thereby accelerating Sephora’s plan to establish a retail presence on the ground in Canada,” commented David Suliteanu, who heads Sephora’s North American operations.

“The success Sephora has already achieved in nine countries across Europe and in the US demonstrates that the Sephora concept – with its distinctive design, range of brands, and open-sell model – is adaptable to local markets and appeals to a broad demographic.

“We’re very excited about our Canadian roll-out. We will concentrate our initial efforts on Toronto before moving into other major metropolitan areas across the country, consistent with our current real estate strategy.”
