Sim Local to open three new stores at London Heathrow Airport

UK. London Heathrow Airport has signed an agreement with SIM card retailer Sim Local to open three stores by June.

The stores selling local SIM cards will be located in the new Terminal 2, as well as T3 and T5. These are in addition to the pilot store now open in T1.

Sim Local sells the pre-paid cards for data, talk and text services from most UK mobile network operators. Users can access locally-priced and international call rates while avoiding roaming charges.

Sim Local CEO Killian Whelan said: “This service is a crucial offering for any international airport; in this day and age, passengers need to be constantly connected to their devices, at competitive prices, which Heathrow understands.”

Heathrow Head of Retail Chris Smith said: “As the UK’s hub airport, we welcome passengers from more than 80 countries around the globe into London every year. Local telecommunication connectivity is incredibly important to our passengers when they arrive at Heathrow.”

He added: “We looked at a number of retail concepts and settled on Sim Local as the preferred operator as they offer a selection of mobile network operators with clear and precise communication in terms of data, talk, text bundles and price points.”

Sim Local plans to roll out a similar retail model at other international airports this year and will also introduce its affiliate travel retail programme, with a shop-in-shop concept and vending machines.
