SINGAPORE. From now until 31 August, Singapore Changi Airport is hosting an exhibition called “Doll Me Up! Singapore Fashion Design in Miniature”.
The event is being jointly organised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), Singapore History Museum (SHM), DesignSingapore Council and Textile & Fashion Federation (Singapore).
Its aim is to showcase the talents within Singapore’s fashion scene among travellers.
As part of the exhibition, air travellers and fashion enthusiasts at Singapore Changi can view over 200 Barbie dolls, dressed in hand-made miniature gowns designed by Singapore’s celebrity and aspiring designers.
Travellers will also get a chance to experience the art of fashion design and flaunt their creativity in a contest to dress up the Barbie dolls.
The exhibition is being in Changi Airport’s Terminals 1 and 2 Departure/Transit Lounges. Among the exhibits, 19 of the dolls are dressed by Singapore’s fashion designers including Ted Wu, Celia Loe, Francis Cheong and Frederick Lee, while the remaining dolls showcase couture gowns by aspiring Singapore designers.
These designs are the competitive entries in the “Doll Me Up! Bridal Fashion in Miniature” competition organised recently by SHM.
Travellers can also pit their fashion skills in the “Doll Me Up in 8 Minutes Contest”, which involves dressing up Barbie dolls with the array of accessories and wardrobe provided.
A panel of judges will pick the winning dolls with the most original, fun and creative dress-sense. The grand prize is an exclusive limited-edition Barbie hamper worth S$1,000.
There will also be two merit prizes of a Barbie hamper and S$200 of Changi Airport vouchers. The contest will be held from 7.30am to 9.30pm daily during the exhibition period.
A live “˜human doll’ wearing dresses by established fashion designer Ted Wu will also mingle with travellers and offer photo-taking opportunities in the Departure/Transit lounges of Terminals 1 and 2.
This “˜living doll’ will be sashaying around the airport from 7.30am to 9.30am and 6pm to 8pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The “Doll Me Up! Singapore Fashion Design in Miniature” exhibition is part of Changi Airport’s continuing efforts to enhance the Changi Experience for travellers.
