UAE. Lagardère Travel Retail UAE has partnered with sustainability company mybird to introduce new environmentally focused straws across its food & beverage estate at Dubai International Airport.
Dubai-headquartered mybird is well-known for providing eco-friendly, plant-based and circular alternatives to single-use plastics for the hospitality and food & beverage industries.

The initiative, announced to coincide with World Environment Day, covers all Lagardère Travel Retail UAE F&B outlets across Dubai Airport terminals 1, 2 and 3.
Lagardère Travel Retail has replaced existing alternatives to traditional plastic straws with mybird’s wood-based products, which are designed to degrade naturally into CO₂, water and biomass without generating microplastics. The straws are wrapped in FSC-certified paper.

The partnership also includes a direct environmental action element. Each mybird order contributes to diver-led ocean clean-up operations in UAE coastal waters, with recovered waste documented and responsibly disposed of.
According to the partners, the programme is expected to eliminate more than 185kg of plastic annually, remove over 200kg of waste from UAE waters and replace more than 500,000 straws each year with alternative materials.

The launch is being supported by a month-long awareness campaign across Lagardère Travel Retail UAE’s F&B outlets at Dubai International throughout June.
Lagardère Travel Retail UAE COO Dubai & Foodservice Ramy Sleiman said: “We believe sustainability must be both meaningful and measurable. Through our partnership with mybird, we are able to introduce a quality and innovative product solution, with direct environmental action.

“By transparently tracking the difference we are making, we ensure our commitment translates into real, tangible impact.”
Mybird Co-Founder Maitha Almatrooshi commented, “Dubai International, the world’s busiest international airport, means a partnership at this scale translates directly into millions of fewer plastic items in circulation and real waste recovered from UAE waters.
