CANADA. WHSmith North America has unveiled a trio of speciality concepts at Calgary International Airport – Elbow River Exchange, Frontier Provisions and InMotion.
The openings mark the travel retailer’s debut at Calgary Airport and its continued expansion in the region after winning 40 stores last year, including 11 in Canada across Calgary and Edmonton airports.
Showcasing a strong Sense of Place, the stores feature local vendors, artists and popular global brands.
A tribute to the rich heritage of the region, Elbow River Exchange highlights the Elbow River’s importance to the Indigenous peoples who have been the caretakers of their land.

The store prominently displays a mural by Indigenous artist Keegan Starlight of the Tsuut’ina Nation. The artwork depicts the significance of the land shared with Indigenous peoples and the commitment to preserving and sharing their culture.
Calgary Airport Authority General Manager Commercial & Retail Development Chris Niergarth said: “Unveiling this commissioned piece from Keegan Starlight is an incredible way to kick off our exciting new partnership with WHSmith.
“Introducing this international retail leader, WHSmith, to the Calgary market is a privilege, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen our collaboration. With their support, YYC is thrilled to showcase a talented local artist and uplift creators in our own community, all while providing guests with excellent retail options for their travel essentials.”

Frontier Provisions honours Alberta’s vast prairies, offering a carefully curated selection of products alongside gourmet grab-and-go options.
Another addition to the airport’s commercial offers, premier electronics airport retailer InMotion features the latest technology innovations from top global brands.

These stores reflect the travel retailer’s commitment to supporting local vendors. Offerings include products from esteemed businesses such as Calgary Heritage Coffee, Chocolate Lab Calgary, Poko Popcorn and more available at Elbow River Exchange and Frontier Provisions.
WHSmith North America CEO Toby Keir added: “This project perfectly aligns with our company’s mission to craft thoughtful and distinctive shopping experiences that resonate with the essence of each city we serve. We are privileged to share the story and history of Calgary through one of our inaugural concepts in this market.”
WHSmith North America is set to open more stores at the airport in the coming months. ✈
