Zürich Airport commercial turnover falls by -79% in June

SWITZERLAND. Zürich Airport turnover from retail and dining fell by -79% year-on-year in June to CHF11.4 million (US$12.1 million) due to the COVID-19 crisis. Airside sales fell by -94.9% and landside by -55.1% compared to a year earlier. Airside spend per departing passenger was CHF16.40 (US$17.44), down by -27% year-on-year, though this was a marked improvement on April and May figures.

The key factor driving the revenue performance was a -93% fall in passenger traffic to just 201,692, with travel restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 crisis.

In the first six months, commercial turnover reached CHF127.3 million (US$135.4 million), down by -55.5% year-on-year. At CHF21.80 (US$23.18), airside average spend was just -3.8% lower than in the first six months of 2019.

Encouragingly, Zürich Airport last week reported that all shops and restaurants had reopened as travel recovery gains momentum.
