Autogrill opens Nordic Bakery café at Frankfurt Airport

GERMANY. Autogrill Deutschland has opened London-based café brand Nordic Bakery at Frankfurt Airport. The 200sq m café is the brand’s first international outlet.

This new location at the landside Shopping Plaza at Terminal 2 will serve the popular Scandinavian-style cinnamon buns and dark rye sandwiches also served in Nordic Bakery’s three London cafés.

The Nordic Bakery Frankfurt menu also includes hot and cold breakfast options, lunch and dinner dishes such as pan fried salmon with cooked rye kernels, and a selection of salads and desserts.

The Nordic Bakery at Frankfurt Airport marks the brand’s international debut

Nordic Bakery Co-Owner Miisa Mink said: “Since opening in London we’ve been looking for a way to expand internationally and despite being approached by a number of interested parties we’d not taken the idea any further. Autogrill’s approach was the first one that we took seriously and that we felt comfortable working with. Opening in Frankfurt has given us confidence and we are now actively looking for partners in other continental markets.

“Nordic Bakery offers an authentic food offer and experience influenced by Nordic cuisine and lifestyle. All our products are handmade fresh on site using the best ingredients, with many of them using rye as a key element. We look forward to serving customers, creating a new travel retail experience and bringing the brand to a larger international audience.”

Autogrill Deutschland General Manager Tim Fuchs said: “We approached Nordic Bakery to work with us as we were convinced of the brand’s strength both in terms of the food offer and the overall experience offered. At a time when more and more convenience food is consumed, Nordic Bakery’s handmade, freshly prepared food is a great USP. Also, the variety of the food and drink offered by Nordic Bakery is not on offer anywhere else at the airport.

“The design of the interior and the furniture used is unique. Once customers understand the offer we believe that the brand has great potential for growth in this sector.”

An authentic experience: the new offer is inspired by Nordic cuisine and lifestyle
