CHINA. The Moodie Davitt Report’s WeChat Official Account has broken through another landmark by surpassing 4,000 followers.
The Moodie Davitt Report is the only international travel retail media title to offer a WeChat platform. The service, published four times a month, complements and boosts the already strong and growing Chinese readership of our English language service.
Moodie Davitt WeChat is curated under the direction of Penelope (Penny) Zhou, our Hong Kong-based Chinese Editor, and company Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie, also based in Hong Kong, China. They are supported by two freelance staff in Mainland China.
Martin Moodie said: “This is another notable landmark, one that underlines the value of our commitment to the Chinese market and the positive response our WeChat platform has generated.

“We launched our WeChat platform in March 2021 and reached 2,000 followers in mid-January 2022. To double our readership base in 14 months is a gratifying reflection of The Moodie Davitt Report’s reputation in China.
“Working alongside me, Penny Zhou has done a tremendous job in developing the platform and curating such an accurate, accessible and content-rich platform. Our success on WeChat has also spurred record traffic on our English-language website.

“Many of our stories – both on WeChat and The Moodie Davitt Report.com – are exclusive and lots more are firsts. We are the only international B2B media, for example, to have covered the temporary shutdown of the Hainan offshore duty free market in late 2022 or to report the recent breakthrough enhancements to Hainan’s pick-up policy. Similarly we will be the exclusive global B2B media attending the Hainan Expo in Haikou next month.
“We have also devoted particular attention to maximising the impact of our major brand stories related to China or the Chinese traveller by amplifying their original online coverage through WeChat. We thank our Chinese readers for their tremendous support.”

In May 2021, Martin Moodie’s extensive coverage of the Hainan offshore duty free sector was recognised by the Hainan International Media Center’s Overseas Communication Officers programme, when he was appointed to the honorary role of ‘Overseas Communication Officer’ by the Hainan International Media Center. ✈
