SSP will roll out the Montreux Jazz Café concept across travel locations over the next decade |
INTERNATIONAL. Leading food travel services group SSP and the Montreux Experience SA have agreed an exclusive ten-year deal to open a number of Montreux Jazz Cafés at travel locations across the world. Ten new outlets are expected to open over the duration of the contract.
SSP CEO Andrew Lynch said: “The Montreux Jazz Café has proven ideally suited to the travel market. Offering a great menu served in an exciting and entertaining environment, it’s the perfect place to spend some time before a flight.”
Montreux Jazz Festival founder Claude Nobs said that “SSP’s ability to take great brands and turn them into popular and commercially successful operations in the demanding travel environment makes it the best choice of partner for this venture”.
He noted: “The reputation of our brand is of crucial importance to us at the Fondation du Festival de Jazz de Montreux. SSP has demonstrated it can present our brand in a way that enhances that reputation, bringing the thrill of the Festival to an even greater audience.”
This latest agreement follows the operation of the existing Montreux Jazz Cafés at Geneva and Sydney airports, with plans to open a third later this year in Zürich.
The first Café opened at Geneva Airport in 2008. During the Festival, travellers visiting the Café are able to watch concerts a few days after they have taken place at the Stravinski Auditorium or the Miles Davis Hall. The Café also hosts a number of live music events throughout the year. The Café at Geneva serves a casual dining menu developed in partnership with leading Swiss chef Gilles Dupont, and incorporating signature dishes inspired by Claude Nobs’ favourite artists. These include the BB Burger and Ella’s Cheesecake.
In May 2010, the first Australian Montreux Jazz Café opened at Sydney Airport. It follows the same formula as the original outlet in Geneva, offering a menu developed to appeal to the local market.
The Montreux Jazz Café will be one of the brands that will feature at the newly refurbished Pier B at Zürich Airport. The new Café will officially open on 22 November this year.
