SWITZERLAND. Foreign Exchange specialist Travelex has introduced a new mobile retail concept at Zurich Airport.
The activation, billed as the ‘Nomad’ unit, is described as a flexible, high-traffic deployment model for travel retail.
Currently in its pilot phase, Travelex said Nomad is designed to bring foreign exchange services closer to passengers by operating as a fully functional store that can be rapidly rolled out and repositioned across airport environments.

The concept combines the capabilities of a traditional foreign exchange bureau, including a full range of currencies and digital signage, with the agility of a pop-up format.
When not in operation, the compact structure can remain securely positioned airside, before being activated for trading within minutes via what Travelex described as a ‘pop-up mechanism’.
A key element of the concept lies in its modularity. Nomad units can be integrated with existing Travelex infrastructure, including ATMs and fixed stores, to create expanded semi-permanent retail spaces during peak periods.
These hybrid formats, Travelex noted, are intended to maximise use of vacant airport units while retaining the ability to revert quickly to a mobile footprint.
Travelex Chief Executive Officer Philip Bowcock said, “Travelex is proud to pioneer our latest on-the-move mobile travel money store concept, catering to our customers’ expectations for a convenient, accessible and secure experience.
“Travelex’s Nomad ensures we are at the forefront of accessibility to better serve our airport customers whilst meeting a wide range of travel money requirements.
“We’re excited to partner with Zurich Airport and have already seen great success on Nomad’s roll-out.”
